Spin conductance, dynamic spin stiffness and spin diffusion in itinerant magnets
نویسنده
چکیده
We discuss analogies between the chargeand spin response functions of itinerant magnets. We show that the spin-analog of the charge stiffness is not given by the usual spin stiffness ρs, but by the dynamic spin stiffness Ds, which is obtained from the dynamic spin conductance Gs(ω) in the limit of vanishing frequency ω. The low-frequency behavior of Gs(ω) is used to define ideal spin conductors, normal spin conductors, and spin insulators. Assuming diffusive spin dynamics, we show that the spin diffusion coefficient is proportional to limω→0ReGs(ω). We exploit this fact to develop a new extrapolation scheme for the spin diffusion coefficient in the paramagnetic phase of the Hubbard model. Typeset using REVTEX 1

Spin Excitations in Localized and Itinerant Magnets
Collective excitations in magnetic materials can be investigated by means of inelastic neutron scattering. We show that this experimental method gives access to the complete spectrum of magnetic fluctuations through the energyand momentum-dependence of the dynamical susceptibility. We focus on the dynamical properties of magnets with localized spin densities and of metals. From such studies, mi...
متن کاملThouless Number and Spin Diffusion in Quantum Heisenberg Ferromagnets
Using an analogy between the conductivity tensor of electronic systems and the spin stiffness tensor of spin systems, we introduce the concept of the Thouless number g0 and the dimensionless frequency dependent conductance g(ω) for quantum spin models. It is shown that spin diffusion implies the vanishing of the Drude peak of g(ω), and that the spin diffusion coefficient Ds is proportional to g...
متن کاملFrustration-induced insulating chiral spin state in itinerant triangular-lattice magnets.
We study the double-exchange model at half-filling with competing superexchange interactions on a triangular lattice, combining exact diagonalization and Monte Carlo methods. We find that in between the expected itinerant ferromagnetic and 120° Yafet-Kittel phases a robust scalar-chiral, insulating spin state emerges. At finite temperatures the ferromagnet-scalar-chiral quantum critical point i...

In this paper, we calculate the spin-dependent conductance of ferromagnetic quantum wire in the presence of one or two defects by using Green's function method at the tight-binding approach. We study the effect of rotation of defect magnetic moment on the system conductance. The results show that in the magnetic wire, independent of existence or absence of defect, the allowed energy region shi...
متن کاملHall effect of spin waves in frustrated magnets.
We examine a possible spin Hall effect for localized spin systems with no charge degrees of freedom. In this scenario, a longitudinal magnetic field gradient induces a transverse spin current carried by spin wave excitations with an anomalous velocity which is caused by a topological Berry-phase effect associated with spin chirality, in analogy with anomalous Hall effects in itinerant electron ...
